REVALIDATION OF DOCTORS

The revalidation process began formally in December 2012. The system is based on Regulations overseen by the GMC, which also operates the Fitness to Practice procedures for doctors. The first revalidation cycle aims to have all doctors revalidated by March 2016, after which a new 5-year cycle of revalidation will begin and be repeated every 5 years.

These directions set out the issues which must be covered in the annual reports of local Healthwatch organisations. Issues include how the local Healthwatch organisation has gathered the views of people on local health and care services. Each Local Healthwatch is required to publish an annual report. Additional guidance for local Healthwatch on completing their annual reports is available from Healthwatch England
These Directions came into force on 2 December 2013.

CQC DOES NOT PUBLICISE QUARTER OF SERIOUS CONCERNS

Patients and the public have not been told about hundreds of serious concerns about health and social care services uncovered by the Care Quality Commission, HSJ has discovered.
Data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act revealed that almost a quarter of the 2,729 warning notices issued by the regulator in the past two and a half years have not been made public.

David Taylor-Gooby was a senior lecturer at East Durham College, and ran the Health Studies Degree course in conjunction with the University of Sunderland. He later worked for the Commission for Public and Patient Involvement in Health, and completed a research project on public involvement at the university with Dr Stephen MacDonald. He also served on Durham County Council’s Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
