JOIN THE STEERING GROUP
The Steering Group believes it is vital for all Regions to have the opportunity to be represented on the Steering Group. We are asking for expressions of interest from HAPIA members in the following regions and to join the Steering Group as Co-opted Members.
We also have a vacancy for one Host representative.
Those who offer to sit on the Steering Group as Co-opted Members, can do so until the Steering Group decides to hold a further election.
Please note that you must be a member of HAPIA, and a member of a Healthwatch in the Region in question, to take part in the process, eg: to express interest in serving as a Co-opted Member on the Steering Group.
Expressions of Interest must be sent to the Chair, Malcolm Alexander, and should state:
Your name ... Address … Healthwatch Name ... Region
Your Expression of Interest must be accompanied by an election statement of no more than 200 words, explaining why you wish to serve as a Co-opted Member on the Steering Group, and what contribution you feel you can make to the development of HAPIA and Healthwatch.
The Steering Group Role Specification
As a Co-opted Member of the Steering Group for HAPIA, you will be first point of contact for members in your Region, so your contact details will be in the public domain. You must be able to commit to the work of HAPIA and support your Region on a week by week basis. You will need to be accessible and flexible, dealing with e-mails, letters and phone calls as these arise.
You should be familiar with the general context of health and social care, up-to-date with its main developments and current direction, and have the skills to interact with policy-makers at local, regional and national level.
The HAPIA Steering Group meets roughly every 6 weeks in London. The work is strategic, so it is expected that Steering Group members will attend the majority of the meetings. The Steering Group's job is to influence national policy on behalf of the membership, responding to issues forwarded by the membership and to those brought to HAPIA by other stakeholders. This requires a positive and creative approach.
Additionally, Steering Group work may call for liaison and attendance at other meetings and events etc., sometimes in a tight time-scale. You will need to be collaborative and able to sign up to consensus working.
Working with Healthwatch members, hosts, Local Authorities and Department of Health representatives in your Region is a priority for Steering Group members.
