NEWS - JUNE 2019
PRIMARY CARE NETWORKS
- An update on progress with implementation of the five-year deal agreed, earlier this year, says the number of GP Practices choosing not to join PCNs has been falling steadily - but NHS England confirmed it did not expect any change of heart among the remaining 26 Practices.
- The document confirms that nearly one in 10 PCNs are smaller than the standard 30,000- to 50,000-patient range envisaged in the five-year contract agreement.
- Of 1,259 PCNs set up across England, 111 have fewer than 30,000 patients, NHS England has confirmed - with 26 of these below the 27,000 mark and two with less than 20,000 patients.

ACCESS TO SUMMARY CARE RECORDS
2 pages
Pharmacists can now access vital patient information quickly and simply through a new Summary Care Record (SCR) 1-click function.
The 1-click function allows pharmacy professionals logged in on their Smartcard to click straight through to a selected patient’s SCR, without having to log in separately and complete a manual search.
This is expected to save time over the course of a day, making access to SCR an integral part of providing pharmacy services, such as medicine use reviews, the new medicines service, administering vaccinations and emergency supply.

YOUR NAMED / ACCOUNTABLE GP
Thelma Walker - Labour, Colne Valley
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether safeguards are in place to ensure that patients' rights to continuity of care with their named GP will be protected in the new Primary Care Network contract, published in March 2019.
Seema Kennedy, The Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Health and Social Care
The new Primary Care Network arrangements will not prevent patients seeing their preferred professional at their practice. The core general practice contract will still include a requirement for each contractor to ensure that for each of its registered patients, there is assigned an accountable general medical practitioner (an ‘accountable GP’).
